Free Coaching to Minority Students Scheme
To make ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’ happen in a true sense, Prime Ministry of Minority Affairs has rolled out Free Coaching to Minority Students scheme since 2013-14. The scheme focuses on empowerment disadvantaged section of the people.
The scheme is aimed at imparting coaching to minority scheme in order to make them employable in public as well as private services. The coaching will help them develop professional acumen. Keeping in mind the current trends of employment, the scheme has been made more comprehensive.
Objectives of the Scheme
The main objective of the scheme is to provide minority community students special coaching for:
Entrance test for admission to various courses such as engineering, medical, management, information technology, law etc has been made compulsory; the scheme imparts coaching for such entrance exams. Coaching is also provided for language and aptitude examination for admission to the foreign universities.

Coaching is provided for competitive examination for services in various sectors which include the bank, insurance companies, administrative services, and state and central government services for class A, B, and C.
Coaching as well as training is provided for jobs in the private sector which includes airlines, food processing, shipping, fisheries, IT services, maritime, business process outsourcing (BPO), hospitality industry, tours and travels, sales and marketing, biotechnology and much more.
Eligibility Criteria for Students under the Scheme
The student must have requisite qualification needed for admission to the course.
Students belonging to minority communities and whose family income per annum is less than 3 lakh are eligible for the scheme.
Benefits of the coaching by a student can be availed only once irrespective of how many attempts are offered for the particular examination.
Students enrolled for coaching under the scheme have to attend classes regularly. If any student remains absent for classes for more than 15 days without nay valid reason, and then the entire expenditure for the course incurred on him will be recovered from him.
30% of the seats are reserved for girls. If not enough girls meet the eligibility, then the seats can be transferred to boys.
Implementation of the Scheme
Government institutes and universities, private universities, autonomous bodies engaged in providing coaching for various exams can get financial assistance under the scheme.
The financial assistance is provided to the institutes which satisfy following criteria:
- The institute must have an adequate number of faculty members, enough infrastructure needed such as the library, well-equipped classroom etc to run the courses.
- The institute should have earlier experience of running such coaching/training courses
15% minimum success rate and 50% placement must have been achieved by the Institute.
Ministry of Minority Affairs accepts the proposal from institutes and approves it. It impanels institutes for five years period.
The duration of any of such courses should not be more than nine months.
Free Coaching to Minority Students will help minority students get the opportunity to prepare themselves for jobs in the private and public sector and join the mainstream.
