According to the National Health Profile-2017, there are only one government doctor available for every 10 thousand people. According to the World Health Organization standard, 01 thousand people should have the facility of a single doctor.
There is not only shortage of doctors but there is a scarcity of para-medical staff also. Former President Pranab Mukherjee once said in 2016 that there is a shortage of 24 lakh paramedical staff in the country. In these hospitals, 13 lakh patients can be admitted together. In other words, government hospitals can treat up to 13 lakh patients simultaneously, against the population of 130 crore. So, patients are taking expensive services of compulsory private hospitals.
In the state of such a stiff government health service, the private health sector earns a lot of money. Approximately 70% of the city’s people prefer to be treated in private hospitals, while approx 60% of the rural areas people prefer to get treatment in private hospitals.
Most of world’s health experts criticized India’s poor government health facility. Every year, the World Health Organization suggests to improving the government health facility. Because of these all and also some other reason, the government was made some promises in that direction.
President Ramnath Kovind saying that there will be a major change in health policy during the budget session. The president also announced that there would 13,000 seats in MBBS and 7,000 seats in medical post-graduate be increased.
But even though these all things are not enough, in the Rajya Sabha, the government said that 1.4% of the total GDP in the country is spent on the government health sector. This budget is considered very low. The healthcare average of the world is 5% of the average GPD. Not only developed countries, but developing countries also spend 4.5% of their GDP on healthcare. In India, this share is only 1.4%. According to keeping in mind 188 countries the number of India in global health standards is 144th. As of this statistical picture the situation is not good in all respects.
