Digital Payment: Government launches Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana

To encourage consumers for Digital Payment as well as for a transition to cashless society, Government of India launches two promotional schemes Lucky Grahak Yojana for consumers and Digi Dhan Vyapari Yojana for merchants.

Lucky Grahak Yojana

Under the scheme Lucky Grahak Yojana, consumers will get cash rewards if they make personal expenditure using digital payment using one of the four methods: UPI, USSD, AEPS, and RuPay Cards. Payment through debit/credit card and e-wallet is excluded.

The rewards under this scheme will be as follows:

  • Daily 15,000 lucky winners will get the cash reward of Rs.1000. The lucky draw will commence from 25th December and continue for a period of 100 days.
  • Every week three lucky consumers will get prizes worth Rs 1 lakh, Rs 10,000 and Rs. 5000.

Under the scheme Digi Dhan Vyapari Yojana, three lucky winners from the merchants who conducted digital transactions at their merchant establishments will be awarded Rs. 50,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 2,500 every week.

A mega draw will be on 14th April and three lucky winners from consumers will get mega prizes of Rs. 1 Cr, Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh for digital transactions made from 8th November 2016 to 13th April 2017. Three lucky winners from merchants will also be declared and they will win rewards worth Rs 50 lakh, 25 lakh and 12 lakh for digital transactions made from 8th November 2016 to 13th April 2017.

The schemes are mainly launched to encourage more and more consumers to go for digital transactions and include middle and lower middle mass of people; it is restricted to transactions in the range of Rs 50 to Rs 3000 to enter the sweepstakes. The winners will be selected randomly. This first phase of incentives ends on 14th April and it is likely to incur expenses of Rs 340 Crores.

Then the government will review and make further announcements Amitabh Kant, CEO of Niti Aayog announced the schemes yesterday and is very hopeful that it will help in a great way to the government in its drive to increase transparency in the economy and curb black money.
