Amma Baby Care Kit Scheme 2017 – Tamil Nadu
With a view to promoting hygiene and sanitation among mothers and newborns, Amma Baby Care Kits Free scheme was launched Tamil Nadu state in September 2015 by then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. The scheme would cost about 65 crores to the state exchequer.
About 68 % of women deliver babies in government hospitals and the scheme would benefit 6.7 lakh newborns.
Benefits of the Amma Baby Care Kit Scheme
Under the scheme, free kit worth Rs. 1000 would be distributed to women who deliver babies in government hospitals.
The kit would contain 16 items necessary to take care of the babies and mother.
The items included in the kit are an infant dress, an infant mattress, towel, mosquito net, soap for a baby, and soap for a mother, baby shampoo, oil bottle, nail clipper, baby rattle, a doll, hand sanitizer, Sowbhaya Leghyam, a mix for mother to increase lactation etc.
The kit also includes medicine for the mother along with a box to store essentials items for the baby.
Newborn babies are likely to develop infections and health issues in the early neonatal period.
The items in the kit help them take care of hygiene; prevent them from developing skin rashes and lesions. The towel, mattress, and dress in the kit are made from soft clothes for the babies.
Tamil Nadu government has launched several welfare and health care schemes for citizens of the state such as Amma Pharmacies, Amma Water, Amma Master Health Check-Up and much more.
