The website was launched on 5th September 2015 by honorable Prime Minister of India. Many other ministers, dignitaries, teachers, and students remained present at the launching ceremony of the website. The Prime Minister delivered a motivational speech at the event.
Every year, the government organizes Kala Utsav in different parts of the country which provides a platform to the people to showcase their arts and talent.

Kala Utsav Awards
To nurture the artistic talent of school students, Kala Utsav provides an environment and opportunities to showcase their living art traditions and talents. Various competitions are held in the field of dance, drama, visual arts and music during the Kala Utsav festivals.
The competitions are held at district, state and national levels and students from all the states and union territories participate in it. To encourage them, national awards are given in various categories. The award comprises of:
- First Prize: Golden Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh
- Second Prize: Silver Trophy and the cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh
- Third Prize: Bronze Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh
