In an attempt to help poor girls to attain higher education, UP Government has taken a good initiative and launched a scheme known as Kanya Vidya Dhan (KVD) Yojana. It is aimed to help girls belonging to BPL families. About Rs, 267.30 crores were given away to 89,100 meritorious girls in the year 2016.

Main Features of the KVD Yojana

  • Girls who have passed 12th class can get the benefit of the Yojana. All the secondary boards are considered.
  • Girls whose family income is less than 35,000 per annum can apply for it.
  • One time scholarship of Rs 30,000 is given to a girl to pursue higher education. The money is directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary.

How to Apply for UP Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana

Eligible girl students can download the form online, fill it out and send it to the concerned department through regular mail. They have to submit a copy of the mark sheet, school leaving certificate and other necessary documents along with it.

All the schools in UP, whether private or public, are directed to inform the girl students passing out of school about the Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana so that the scheme can reach to a maximum number of girls. Schools can play a significant role in making girls aware of the Yojana as well as guide them and help them understand the importance of higher education to them.
