Apply for Vidyanjali Yojana
Vidyanjali yojana online application/registration: Aimed at enhancing the involvement of the community in imparting education to students in government-run elementary schools, Vidyanjali Yojana has been launched on 16th June 2016. The program has been implemented by Ministry of Human Resource and Development under the aegis of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
Vidyanjali is a Volunteer Programme that involves voluntarily services from retired teachers, retired government officials and defense personnel, retired professionals, housewives etc volunteerily at a school. Through this programme, the government tries to encourage people from different walks who are willing to volunteer services at schools such as mentors, communicators confidantes etc.
Aims of Vidyanjali Yojana
A very large number of people have the desire to do some noble work for the society, specifically in the field of education. On the other hand, children in government schools need attention and services from people, particularly for co-scholastic activities. The programme is an earnest initiative to bridge the gap.
The volunteers will not have to teach any subjects or take regular classes in the school. They can conduct co-scholastic activities and help enrich the teaching-learning process. They won’t have to act as the replacement of the regular school teachers.
Implementation of the Programme
The programme was first implemented on pilot bases across 20 States. MHRD has provided detailed guidelines at www.MyGov.in.
- The programme is implemented in elementary classes (Std. 1-8) of a government school. Schools participating in the programme have to fulfill certain criteria. The criteria are:
- The school must have a have a full time appointed Head Master.
- If the school is a girls’ school or co-ed school, then the school must have at least one female teacher.
- The school must have connectivity to the internet.
- The school building should be safe and must have functional toilets in it.
Qualification of a Volunteer
Volunteers who want to join the programme is expected to handle children with patience, encourage them and must have empathy for them.
Retired professionals, retired defense personnel, retired government officials, homemakers who have at least passed 12th class can apply for it. Non-resident Indians with OCI card can also apply for it. The applicant must be above 18 years of age.
Volunteers at a school will work for strengthening and enrichment of the students in school through co-scholastic activities. They can impart diverse talents and skills, thereby making the valuable contribution to the learning process at school. The activities they can conduct can be reading to children, play acting, creative writing, oratory skill, writing storybooks for children etc.
The volunteer will have to work during school hours only and activities are to be conducted on school premises only.
How to Apply for Volunteer under the Scheme
An applicant can apply at www.mygov.in. One can view area wise school requesting volunteers at the website. The application form will be reviewed by the headmaster of the school and final selection will be based on the interview between the headmaster and the aspiring volunteer.
Vidyanjali Yojana is a noble initiative from the government which helps elementary school children in government schools with the overall development of them.
